Named in homage to the rich history of MDI being a major bootlegging port during the Prohibition, these coffees are aged in locally sourced barrels.

This coffee is from Burundi and is aged in a Gunpowder Rye whiskey barrel from New England Distilling. Here is what NED had to say about their barrel:

“New England Distilling’s Gunpowder Rye is a traditional rye whiskey, handmade in Portland from rye and malted barley, and matured in new, charred American oak barrels.  Gunpowder Rye pairs rye’s grainy spiciness with the barrel flavors of vanilla and caramel.”

“This medium toast oak barrel from the Cognac region of France was used by Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville, Maine to age their Buoy Red (Grenache/Syrah blend) for 18 months. Winemakers, CC and Aaron, were fortunate to tour the cooperage to watch the barrels being made!”
